Worker’s Compensation is an insurance program that is state-regulated. It provides the employee with income and benefits in the case they were to sustain a work-related injury or illness. In most cases, the employer is required to notify the employee whether or not coverage is provided.
What does Worker’s Compensation pay for?
Worker’s Compensation pays for medical expenses, rehabilitation, vocational retraining and a portion of the employee’s salary if: you are injured at work or have a work-related illness; and your employer has workers’ compensation insurance coverage under the Texas Workers’ Compensation Act, Title 5, Subtitle A, Labor Code.
Absolute Life Wellness Center provides the rehabilitation and vocational retraining tools to return injured workers back to work at their required physical demand level (PDL). Often times, a functional capacity evaluation (FCE) is warranted to determine an employee’s safe functional tolerances and physical limitations relative to work activities prior to entering a rehabilitation program. We do not perform this exam for your referring physician. This test will have to be done if needed by a doctor outside of our clinic.
The PDL is often in the job description and explains what the worker can expect to do on a given work day. This ranges from sedentary to very heavy physical demanding labor, and includes lifting and carrying objects, pushing or pulling objects and working with heavy machinery. A PDL also defines how frequent these physical demands happen on a given work day.
A functional capacity evaluation is a set of tests and exercises to find out about the ability of a person injured. These are required by Texas state law when dealing with disability and worker’s compensation. The FCE determines level of fitness, and the course for returning the patient back to work.
While undergoing rehabilitation, it is necessary to monitor the progress of the injured worker. We assess their progress using physical performance evaluations (PPE). These are standardized testing evaluations required by Texas Worker’s Compensation.
If you have been injured at work or obtained a work-related illness, Absolute Life Wellness Center may be able to help you. Our goal is to safely return the injured employee back to work and improve their quality of life.
